Men's Basketball Earns Season Sweep over Marywood with 80-75 win

SCRANTON, Pa.- The men's basketball team completed the season sweep over Marywood with an 80-75 win over the Pacers on Saturday afternoon. The Mighty Macs upended Marywood 73-65 earlier this season and improve to 7-12 overall and 3-4 in the Atlantic East. The win halted a three game losing streak in conference play.  

Jordan Ambrose scored a game-high 25 points for the Macs and shot 50-percent (10-20) from the field. Brandon McCullough connected on four triples to add 18 points as Steven Dao answered the starting nod after 11 games coming off the bench with 13 points, six rebounds and two blocks.

Marywood had a strong start to the game and held an early 8-2 lead before Immaculata answered with 7-0 run and led 9-8 over the Pacers with 14:24 left in the first half. The Pacers took the lead back and built an 11-point lead (26-15) at the eight-minute mark.

Immaculata stiffened up its defense and didn't allow a field goal over the final 7:56 of game play, helping the Macs regain the lead at the half. The Macs closed the half on a 15-3 run and held a 30-29 lead at intermission.

Brandon McCullough hit a jumper in the early goings of the second half to give the Macs a 43-35 lead at the 16-minute mark. The Pacers would even up the score at 50 following a three by Tom DeFilppo, but Immaculata had a strong answer.

The Macs went on a 15-0 run in nearly four minutes of gameplay to take its biggest lead of the game at 65-50 with 7:35 left in the contest.

The Pacers proved to be tough to put away, as Marywood closed the defecit to one two times after trailing by 15. With the Macs holding a 72-71 lead with 1:37 left, Dao converted a layup and McCullough hit a three to help seal the win. Time Moore iced the game by hitting 3-of-4 free throws as Immaculata held on for the five-point win.

Immaculata shot 52-percent from the floor in the second half and made 6-of-10 shots from long distance. The Mighty Macs improved in the turnover category and only gave it away six times in the win. The team also shot 78-percent from the line after connecting on 14 of 18 attempts.

The win helped the Macs separate from the Pacers in the Atlantic East standings as Marywood falls to 6-14 overall and 1-6 in conference play.

The Mighty Macs step out of conference play on Tuesday night and visit Valley Forge at 7 p.m. in its last non-conference game of the season.
