Men's Basketball Tripped Up by Conference Leading Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday

IMMACULATA, Pa.- Immaculata fell short against conference leading Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday afternoon by the score of 83-69.

Jordan Ambrose and Asa Kitchen each scored 13 points for the Macs (6-11, 2-3) as Brandon McCullough joined them in double figures with 10 points. Rich Dunham scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Griffins.

Gwynedd Mercy got off to a blistering start and opened the game on a 20-4 spurt with the help of an 11-0 run.

Immaculata would claw its way back into the game with tough defense and a balanced attack on offense. The Macs went on a 9-1 run to trim the lead to 21-13 with 11:47 left in the first half. The Mighty Macs went on to limit the Griffins to one basket in nearly six minutes of game play as they took its first lead of the game at 36-35 with 1:45 remaining in the first half.

Rich Dunham answered with a three to put the visitors back in front to give the Griffins a 39-38 edge at intermission. The Mighty Macs shot 64-percent from the field in the first half and connected on 5-of-7 threes to battle back into the contest.

Both teams traded baskets early in the second half when the Macs went on a 6-0 spurt in helps to a layups by Tillery and McArthur and a pair of free throws by Asa Kitchen.

Jeffrey Powell-Young hit a three at the midway point of the second half to give Immaculata a 61-58 lead. The shots wouldn't follow for the home team as Immaculata was held without basket from the field for over six minutes of play as Gwynedd Mercy built a 13-point lead. The run finished 19-6 in favor of the Griffins as the scoring drought was too much to overcome.

The Griffins benefited from 19 free throw makes to hold on for an 83-69 win and moved to 14-4 overall and 5-0 in the Atlantic East. Gwynedd Mercy dominated the glass and pulled in 21 offensive rebounds in the win. The Mighty Macs bench outscored the Griffins 19-14 in the game with the help of eight points from John McArthur.

Immaculata will return to Alumnae Hall on Wednesday evening to face Cabrini at 8 p.m.
