ARLINGTON, Pa.- The Immaculata women's basketball team took to the road on Wednesday evening for an Atlantic East battle opposite a talented Marymount team. Despite leading at the end of the first quarter and trailing by just one heading to the halftime break, Immaculata fell by a final score of 66-48 to drop to 3-1 in Atlantic East play.
Marymount opened the contest on a 15-7 run that spanned the first four and a half minutes of action before Immaculata stormed back with an 11-0 run of its own to close out the opening stanza with a slim 18-15 advantage over its hosts.
The second quarter of play saw both teams trade baskets and runs before a three-pointer from
Erin Kelly with 40 seconds to play in the half evened the score at 30-30. Marymount converted a layup with 10 seconds left before
Theresa Kearney went 1-for-2 from the stripe to close out the half with Immaculata trailing by just one (32-31).
Similarly to the beginning of the contest, Marymount opened the third quarter on a 14-7 run to claim a 46-38 lead with 3:45 to play in the third quarter. Over the final 3:45 of the third period, Immaculata and Marymount traded baskets as the Saints held a 51-40 lead heading to the fourth and final quarter of play.
Marymount retained its lead through the final 10 minutes of regulation as the Saints emerged victorious by a final score of 66-48 after a strong fourth quarter performance that saw the home team outscore its visitors 15-8 to close out the victory.
Jordan Rook continued her strong stretch of play for the Mighty Macs setting a new career-high with 19 points while
Brielle Rigo finished just one point shy of a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds in the setback.
As a team, Immaculata shot 37.5 % from the field and 23.5 % from three while going 8-for-10 from the charity stripe.
Gabrielle Haddad led all scorers with a game-high 21 points for Marymount while Katie McShea ended with 17 points and eight rebounds in the victory.
Marymount also ended the contest with a 41-32 edge in rebounding thanks in large part to a 19-7 edge on the offensive glass.
Immaculata will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when Gwynedd Mercy visits Alumnae Hall with that contest set to begin at 1 p.m.
