Men's Basketball Drops Atlantic East Contest to Marymount

ARLINGTON, VA.- The Immaculata men's basketball fell 84-73 to Marymount in Atlantic East Conference play on Wednesday evening.

Jordan Ambrose led the Mighty Macs (6-10, 2-2) for the second-straight game and poured in 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting. Brandon McCullough rebounded from a season-low nine points against Neumann on Saturday to score 17 points. Jake Strycharz went 2-for-3 from long distance to chip in with eight points.

Ladarius McCord paced the Saints (10-8,3-2) with 21 points while Xavier Reaves and Steve Etienne joined him in double figures with 17 and 16 points respectively.

Asa Kitchen made a layup to even up the score at 10 five minutes into the game when the Saints went on its first run of the game. The home team went on a 9-2 run over four minutes of gameplay to give Marymount a 19-12 lead with 11:31 left in the first half.

Immaculata responded with a 7-0 spurt to tie the game at 19 at the midway point of the first half. McCullough capped the run with a layup while John McArthur and Jordan Ambrose each added baskets for the Macs.

The Mighty Macs took their first lead of the game after Jeffrey Powell-Young knocked down a three for a 26-25 advantage at the six-minute mark.

Marymount quickly regained the lead following a layup by Taiga Walker and would hold on for a 43-35 lead heading into the half.

The Macs came out with some energy in the second half as Steven Dao made a layup to even the score at 46 with 15:34 remaining in the game. The teams would trade baskets as the Macs refused to go away without a fight.

Ambrose hit a pair of free throws with 9:41 left in the second half but the Mighty Macs could never break through and take the lead in the final frame. Marymount took control of the game and went on to lead by as much as 11 in the second half as the Saints held on for the 84-73 win.

Marymount won the battle on the glass and outrebounded Immaculata 47-35 with 14 rebounds coming on the offensive end.   

Immaculata returns home to face Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday at 3 p.m. in another important Atlantic East contest.
