ASTON, Pa.- The Immaculata women's basketball team took to the road for the first time in 2020 on Saturday morning for a rare 11 a.m. start at Atlantic East rival Neumann looking to improve to a perfect 3-0 in Atlantic East play. Immaculata continued its hot start to the New Year as the Macs defeated the Knights by a final of 69-56.
The Macs have now won five straight contests dating back to December 21
st when the team defeated Bryn Athyn in its final game of 2019. This streak is the team's longest winning streak of the season and has also given the Macs their best start to conference play since the 2014-15 season when the team opened league play a perfect 6-0.
Kaitlyn Racobaldo set a new career-high for scoring with 15 points while
Jordan Rook matched her career-high once again with another 18-point outing to lead the Macs to the victory.
Theresa Kearney also ended with 15 points in the victory while
Annie Kohutka added 11 points as well as the fourth Mighty Mac in double figures in the victory. Racobaldo also ended the contest with a team-high nine rebounds thanks in large part to a team-high five offensive rebounds.
In the first quarter of play, Neumann jumped out to an early 5-0 lead before Immaculata responded with a 12-5 run to claim a 12-10 lead with 4:15 to play in the opening quarter. From this point, each team would score just two more points each over the final 4:15, which allowed Immaculata to carry a 14-12 lead into the second quarter.
In the second quarter, Immaculata and Neumann traded baskets throughout much of the quarter, however, Immaculata did manage to once again outscore its hosts 19-15 in the stanza to carry a 33-27 lead into the halftime break.
In the first half, Rook continued her strong play scoring a team-high 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field to help Immaculata claim the early lead. Kearney also ended the opening half of play with nine points on 4-of-8 shooting to bolster the Mighty Mac offense.
As a team, Immaculata shot 39.3 % from the field and 33.3 % from three-point land, however, the Macs did return to form from the charity stripe in the opening 20 minutes as the team shot 80.0 % in the opening half of play.
In the opening five minutes of the second half, Neumann opened on a 10-4 run to even the score at 37-37 with five minutes to play in the third quarter. Following the Neumann run to open the half, Immaculata went on a 17-7 run to close out the quarter with a 54-44 lead.
In the fourth and final quarter of play, Immaculata opened the frame with a 12-7 run through the first six minutes of play to claim a 66-51 lead with just under four minutes to play in regulation. The final four minutes of regulation were quiet offensively for each team, however, Immaculata was able to hold on to earn the 69-56 victory over Neumann and improve to a perfect 3-0 in Atlantic East play.
As a team, Immaculata ended the contest shooting 42.9 % from the field and 28.6 % from three-point land while also shooting 79.3 % from the line en route to the victory. Immaculata also ended the contest with a +11 (38-27) advantage in rebounding.
Chelsea Keebeler led Neumann in scoring with 13 points while Kamryn Englert and Terea Hunt each added nine points of their own in the loss.
Immaculata will be back in action on Wednesday evening on the road at Marymount with that contest set to begin at 6 p.m.
