Women's Basketball Stifles Wesley in 70-40 Win

IMMACULATA, PA- Immaculata used a tough defensive effort to upend Wesley on Wednesday evening from Alumnae Hall. The Macs (8-7,2-0) move above .500 and are riding a four game winning streak.

Jordan Rook matched her career-high with 18 points to lead the way for the Macs while Theresa Kearney chipped in with 14 points. Freshman Morgan Falcone scored a career-best 14 points off the bench. The Mighty Macs are 2-0 in conference play for the first time since 2015. 

Both teams would trade baskets early on before Immaculata went on an 8-0 run to build a 14-6 lead with two minutes left in the quarter. Kearney, Morgan Falcone, Kaitlyn Racobaldo and Jordan Rook each scored two points to jump start the offense. Immaculata held the Wolverines scoreless for just over three minutes to build the eight-point advantage.

The Macs held an 18-12 lead after the first 10 minutes of action but would take control of the game in the second quarter. Immaculata went on a 10-0 run spanning the first three minutes of the second as Immaculata led 28-12 with 6:24 remaining.

The Mighty Macs held Wesley to 25-percent shooting in the first half as Immaculata held a 35-21 halftime lead.

Immaculata kept up its strong defensive effort and put together its toughest quarter on the defensive end. The Macs held the Wolverines to 2-for-15 from the field in the quarter and allowed only five points in the frame. Immaculata outscored Wesley 14-5 in the third and led 49-26 heading into the fourth.

The Macs finished the fourth strong and scored the most points of any quarter with 21 as they cruised to a 70-40 win. The 30-point win was the largest margin of victory in Atlantic East history under coach Chrissy Rhine.

Immaculata had a season-best 19 steals and forced 34 turnovers in the game. Wesley was limited to 1-for-12 shooting from long distance while the Macs made eight triples in the win.

Brielle Rigo pulled in 10 rebounds while Emily Halloran registered eight rebounds in 12 minutes off the bench. Jourdyn Beverly and Shervohnia Tolson each scored 11 points for Wesley (5-9,0-3).

Immaculata has its first road Atlantic East contest on Saturday when they travel to Aston, PA to face Neumann at 1 p.m.
