Women's Volleyball Swept at Penn State Tri-Match

READING, Pa.- The Immaculata University women's volleyball team was back in action on Saturday morning at Penn State Berks in the opening game of the PSU-Berks Tri Match opposite host PSU-Berks before squaring off against Lancaster Bible in the second game of the afternoon. After dropping the first match of the day to PSU-Berks, Immaculata squared off against Lancaster Bible and despite battling hard the Macs fell in five sets to go 0-2 on the afternoon and drop to 4-7 on the year.

In the first match of the day against Penn State Berks, Immaculata battled throughout but Berks proved to be too much as the Lions rolled to a victory in straight sets (25-16, 25-15, 25-18). In the first set of the match, the two teams traded points and brief runs but it was a late run by PSU-Berks that gave the hosts the first set victory. In the second set, Penn State Berks roared out to a 12-5 lead to open the set and they used this lead to roll to a second set victory and take a 2-0 lead in the match. The third set was a similar story as Berks once again jumped out to an early lead that led the Nittany Lions to the third set victory and the match victory.

Natalie Dependahl ended the match with a team-high nine kills while Aly Lowe had a strong afternoon with a team-high 16 assists. McKenna Ryan ended the match with a team-high 14 digs as well to lead the Macs in this category as well.

In the second match of the afternoon vs Lancaster Bible, Immaculata captured the opening set by a final of 25-19 to claim an early lead, unfortunately this was not enough in what would be a five-set loss for the Mighty Macs.  In the opening set, Immaculata raced to an early 7-2 lead, which was enough to lead the Macs to the 25-19 first set victory. In the second set, Lancaster Bible claimed an early lead it would never relinquish en route to a second set victory before Immaculata returned the favor with a 25-15 third set victory to claim a 2-1 lead. Unfortunately, the Chargers answered back with a pair of hard fought victories in the fourth and fifth set (25-20, 15-13) to claim the five-set victory over the Mighty Macs.

Dependahl led the way in kills in the second match as well turning in a 13 kill performance while Megan Daugherty led the second match of the day in assists with 17 helpers on the afternoon. McKenna Ryan ended the match with the lead in digs once again posting 16 more digs in the second match of the afternoon in what was a strong performance for the freshman Libero.

Immaculata will be back in action on Tuesday evening at home opposite Marymount with that contest set to begin at 7 p.m. before hosting Haverford in non-league action on Wednesday evening with that match beginning at 6:30 p.m.
