Men's Soccer Races Past Wilkes

IMMACULATA, Pa.- In need of a victory to open its two-game home stand to conclude the month of September, the Immaculata University men's soccer team was back in action this afternoon at home against a challenging non-conference foe in the Wilkes Colonels. Immaculata used a strong first half to match its highest scoring output of the season en route to an exciting 3-2 victory over Wilkes on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened;
  • Freshman Josh Fonder opened the scoring in the 20th minute off an assist from Carl Vicere to give the Macs the early 1-0 advantage. Unfortunately, this lead was short-lived as Wilkes answered back with a goal of its own in the 21st minute to even the score at 1-1.
  • Undeterred, Immaculata answered back seconds later when Oldy Dielce found the back of the net off an assist from Fonder to give the Macs a 2-1 lead once again. Immaculata extended its lead in the 39th minute when Zachary Malcolm used an assist from Nick Boule to give the Macs a commanding 3-1 lead heading to the halftime break.
  • In the 88th minute, Wilkes capitalized on another corner to trim the deficit to 3-2, however, the Immaculata defense stood tall in the final two minutes of regulation to keep the score at 3-2 and earn the thrilling victory over Wilkes on Saturday afternoon.
  • Mikey Kalpokas had a strong day between the pipes making seven big saves to slow down the ever dangerous Wilkes offense.
