IMMACULATA, Pa.- In need of a victory to open its two-game home stand to conclude the month of September, the Immaculata University men's soccer team was back in action this afternoon at home against a challenging non-conference foe in the Wilkes Colonels. Immaculata used a strong first half to match its highest scoring output of the season en route to an exciting 3-2 victory over Wilkes on Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened;
- Freshman Josh Fonder opened the scoring in the 20th minute off an assist from Carl Vicere to give the Macs the early 1-0 advantage. Unfortunately, this lead was short-lived as Wilkes answered back with a goal of its own in the 21st minute to even the score at 1-1.
- Undeterred, Immaculata answered back seconds later when Oldy Dielce found the back of the net off an assist from Fonder to give the Macs a 2-1 lead once again. Immaculata extended its lead in the 39th minute when Zachary Malcolm used an assist from Nick Boule to give the Macs a commanding 3-1 lead heading to the halftime break.
- In the 88th minute, Wilkes capitalized on another corner to trim the deficit to 3-2, however, the Immaculata defense stood tall in the final two minutes of regulation to keep the score at 3-2 and earn the thrilling victory over Wilkes on Saturday afternoon.
- Mikey Kalpokas had a strong day between the pipes making seven big saves to slow down the ever dangerous Wilkes offense.
Inside the Box Score:
- Wilkes ended the contest with a slight 18-12 edge in shots and a 10-8 edge in shots on goal while also ending the match with a 9-4 edge in corner kicks.
- Fonder extended his lead in both goals and points this season recording his third goal of the season while also registering his seventh point of the year with a three-point performance to lead the Mighty Macs to the victory.
