Men's Soccer Falters Late in Setback vs Moravian

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata University men's soccer team returned home on a warm and sunny September afternoon to square off against the Moravian Greyhounds. Despite trailing for the majority of the contest, Moravian came away with the victory thanks to a goal in the closing moments of regulation before a PK goal during the first overtime period lifted the Greyhounds to the victory over the Mighty Macs by a final of 2-1.

How it Happened:
  • Immaculata jumped out to an early lead thanks to a goal in the 39th minute from Oldy Dielce off an assist from Jason Willoughby to carry a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
  • In the second half each side had its chances throughout but it was a goal in the 89th minute by Moravian that evened the score and sent the game to overtime tied at 1-1.
  • In overtime, Moravian got a PK late in the first session, which the Greyhounds converted to earn a 2-1 OT victory over the Mighty Macs.
  • Mikey Kalpokas worked hard between the pipes for Immaculata making nine big saves to keep the Macs in the contest throughout while his counterpart made four big saves of his own to slow down the Mighty Mac offense.
Inside the Box Score:
  • Moravian ended the contest with a 22-10 edge in shots including an 11-9 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Moravian also ended the contest with a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.

Immaculata will be back in action on Wednesday evening at Stevenson with that contest set to begin at 4 p.m.
