Men's Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw with Misericordia

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata University men's soccer team (0-1-1) was back in action on Sunday afternoon against Misericordia (1-0-1) looking to exact revenge following a disappointing loss at the hands of McDaniel in the season opener on Friday afternoon.  In this matchup, 110 minutes of soccer was not enough to decide a victor as Immaculata and Misericordia battled throughout but the contest eventually ended in a scoreless tie.
 How it Happened:
  • In the first half of play, Immaculata and McDaniel battled throughout and despite clearly having the better of play as they possessed the ball for 67 percent of the opening half compared to just 33 percent for Misericordia, Immaculata was unable to convert this possession into goals, thus, sending the contest to the half locked at 0-0.
  • In the second half it was more of the same as Immaculata continued to out possess its guests but the defensive effort of the Cougars led by five saves by goalkeeper Patrick Hoffman kept Misericordia in the contest and forced overtime marking the second year in a row this matchup has needed extra time.
  • In the 2018 edition of this matchup, overtime proved to be the answer for Immaculata as the Macs netted the game-winner via an Alex Noel PK in the 105th minute, however, this year overtime was not enough as neither team could break the scoreless tie, thus, ending the game tied at 0-0.
  • Garrett Pepper was outstanding in goal for the Mighty Macs this afternoon as he stood tall and made three huge saves to keep the Cougars off the scoreboard throughout the contest.
 Inside the Box Score:
  • At the conclusion of the match, Misericordia held a slight 9-8 edge in shots, however, the Macs did maintain a slight 5-3 edge in shots on goal.
  • Additionally, Immaculata ended the contest with a narrow 4-3 advantage in corner kicks thanks to three corner kicks in the second half of play.
 Up Next:
Immaculata will take to the road on Wednesday evening for a 7 p.m. battle at Muhlenberg for the first game of a three-week, five-game road trip. The Macs will not return to Draper Walsh Stadium until September 21 opposite Moravian beginning at 11 a.m.
