IMMACULATA, Pa.- For the second time in the last two days the Immaculata University women's soccer team (1-1) took the field opposite a challenging non-league this time squaring off against the Eastern Eagles (1-0). A day ago, Immaculata had its offense firing on all cylinders as the Mighty Macs turned in a record-setting performance in their 13-0 victory over Penn State Lehigh Valley. This afternoon opposite Eastern, Immaculata applied steady pressure throughout but the Eagles were up to the task as the Mighty Macs dropped their first contest of the season by a 2-0 final.
How it Happened:
- In the first half, Eastern broke the scoreless tie in the 34th minute when Nicole Weenink scored her first of two goals on the afternoon to give the Eagles an early lead.
- In the late stages of the first half, Immaculata threatened as the Macs directed a flurry of shots on goal in the closing minutes of the half but the Eastern goalie proved to be up to the task as she managed to stop them, thus, sending the game to the break with Eastern ahead by the slimmest of margins.
- Weenink struck again just under 10 minutes into the second half off a long ball into the box, which gave the Eagles a commanding 2-0 lead they would never relinquish.
- Brooke Shissler worked hard between the pipes for Immaculata ending the day with eight saves including an impressive save on a penalty kick to try and keep her squad in the game but the Eastern defense proved to be up the task of slowing down the potent Mighty Mac offense.
Inside the Box Score:
- Immaculata ended the game with a 22-15 advantage in shots including a 13-10 edge in shots on goal led by what tied for a match-high six shots by Riley Rudd.
- Eastern ended the game with a slim 5-4 advantage in corner kicks courtesy of a 3-0 advantage in this category during the second half of play.
