IMMACULATA, Pa.-The Immaculata University women's volleyball team (1-0) opened its 2019 slate on Friday evening at home opposite the Cairn Highlanders (0-1) and the Mighty Macs prevailed in five sets (23-25, 25-11, 25-17, 22-25, 15-6) to improve to 1-0 to open the season.
How it Happened:
- In the first set, Immaculata and Cairn battled throughout as the contest remained close throughout the early stages but Cairn eventually seized the late momentum to earn the 25-23 victory to open the match.
- In the second set, Immaculata stormed back and despite briefly trading runs throughout the early part of the set the Macs captured the second set easily by a 25-11 score. The third set was more of the same for Immaculata as the Macs battled their way to a 25-17 third set victory to claim a commanding 2-1 lead heading to the fourth set.
- The fourth set was back and forth throughout once again but ultimately it was a run by Cairn that enabled the Highlanders to capture the fourth set by a 25-22 final, thus, forcing a deciding fifth set.
- In the fifth set, Immaculata returned to form and captured the set by a final of 15-6 to win the match and improve to 1-0 on the young season.
Inside the Box Score;
- As a team, Immaculata compiled a .201 hitting percentage with its best performance of the evening coming in the fifth set when the Macs hit .294 as a team to secure the victory. The Macs also managed to hold their counterparts to a hitting percentage of just 0.57 on the evening.
- Natalie Dependahl registered a match-high 17 kills on the evening followed closely by Aly Lowe who recorded nine and Devyn Crowder who ended the match with seven kills of her own. Crowder also tied for the match-high in service aces with three aces alongside Logan Hughes and McKenna Ryan who each recorded three aces of their own.
- Ryan also led the way in digs for Immaculata registering a match-high 20 digs on the evening followed closely by Sara Desmond who ended the match with 13 digs of her own.
- Megan Daugherty ended the evening leading the team in assists with 18 helpers on the evening while fellow newcomer Lowe recorded 17 helpers of her own in the five-set victory.
- Jade Rindock also had a strong performance in the victory as she registered a match-high four blocks on the evening to help key the Mighty Macs to the victory.
