Women's Soccer Ties Program Record in Victory over Penn State-Lehigh Valley

IMMACULATA, Pa.- After ending the 2018 season on an impressive run that saw the Immaculata University women's soccer team (1-0-0) advance to the Inaugural Atlantic East Conference Championship game, the Mighty Macs enter 2019 hungry to duplicate and build off their success from a year ago. The season-long journey for Head Coach Zena Tracey's charges began this evening opposite a talented Penn State-Lehigh Valley squad (0-1-0). Immaculata used a big first half to pull ahead and win by a final score of 13-0 to open the season.

The 13-goal performance for Immaculata this evening ties the programs single-game record for goals marking just the third time the Macs have scored 13 goals in a contest with the last such occurrence coming in October 2002 opposite Wilson.  Additionally, freshman Kelli Dombroski became just the eighth Mighty Mac in program history to register a hat trick and she is believed to be the first to accomplish this feat in her first career game for Immaculata.

Riley Rudd also moved into a tie for fourth in program history in goals after netting her 18th career goal while moving into a tie for third in points with 43 career points.

How it Happened:
  • In the first half, Immaculata raced out to an early 7-0 lead within the first 25 minutes of regulation courtesy of goals from Samantha Donmoyer, Kelli Dombroski, Julia Schumacher, Kristen Guthier, Bridget McDonough and Nicole Brennan. The Macs continued their early offensive onslaught as Hope Bizal and McDonough each found the back of the net once more before the end of the half to claim a commanding 9-0 lead.
  • During the second half, the Macs scored a pair of goals in the first five minutes of the half as Rudd found the back of the net as did Dombroski for the third time on the evening to claim a commanding 11-0 lead. The Macs added goals in the 64th and 82nd minutes from Corrine Karas and Maddie Bescript, respectively, which gave Immaculata its commanding 13-0 lead.
Inside the Box Score:
  • Immaculata outshot its guests by a gaping 36-1 margin including a 22-1 advantage in shots on goal. Dombroski led the way for the Macs in shots as she ended the evening with a game-high five shots including three shots on goal all of which became goals for the Mighty Macs.
  • Immaculata also held an impressive 9-1 advantage in corner kicks surrendering just one corner in the latter stages of the second half of play in what was an impressive defensive effort.
  • Brooke Shissler got the start in goal and played the first half although she did not need to make a save before exiting in favor of Maddy Terry who finished the game in net making the lone save of the contest for Immaculata.
