Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Edged by McDaniel in Season Opener

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata University men's soccer team (0-1-0) made its much anticipated return to the pitch this afternoon to take on a formidable foe in the McDaniel Green Terror (1-0-0). The game was closely contest throughout but McDaniel used a big first half to pull ahead and claim the 2-1 victory to open the season.

How it Happened:
  • In the opening stanza, McDaniel raced out to an early lead scoring a pair of goals in the 13th and 36th minutes, respectively to claim a 2-0 lead heading to the halftime break.
  •  In the second half, Immaculata broke through with a goal of its own during the 73rd minute when Josh Fonder got on the end of a beautiful pass from Oldy Dielce to trim the deficit to just one.
  •  In the 81st minute, Garrett Pepper who entered in relief of starting goalie Mikey Kalpokas made a stellar save on a penalty kick, which kept the score at just 2-1 heading into the latter stages of the game.
  • Unfortunately, this is as close as the Mighty Macs would get as the Green Terror proved to be up to the task defensively to secure the 2-1 victory  open the season.
 Inside the Box Score:
  • Immaculata ended the contest with a slight 11-9 edge in shots including a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal thanks in large part to a team-high two shots each from a pair of freshman in John Bohrer and Justin Hahn.
  •  McDaniel ended the contest with a slight 5-4 edge in corners as well as a 5-3 edge in saves thanks to the stellar play between the pipes of starting goalie Aaron Bilbie who worked hard throughout the evening to limit the dangerous Mighty Mac offensive attack.
Up Next:
Immaculata will be back in action on Sunday afternoon at home against another talented non-league foe in Misericordia before taking to the road for the next three weeks with the Macs next home game not coming until September 21st opposite Moravian.
