Barretta Nets Four; Second Half Surge Downs Macs

IMMACULATA, Pa. - The Immaculata University men's lacrosse team was unable to keep visiting Lebanon Valley in check in the second half of Saturday afternoon's non-conference matchup at Draper Walsh Stadium, as the Mighty Macs fell to the Dutchmen, 18-5.

Freshman James Barretta netted a team-high four goals to log his third hat trick of the season and added an assist for five points on the afternoon. Steve Long also provided a tally for the seventh-straight game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Lebanon Valley opened the scoring in the game's first 90 seconds, but Barretta was quick to draw the Macs even at one with his first goal of the afternoon at the 10:44 mark of the first quarter.
-The Dutchmen reeled off three-straight scores to build an early lead before Barretta dove in front of the crease and beat the Lebanon Valley goalie bottom right to cut the deficit down to two with under a minute left in the opening quarter. The freshman then opened the second period with his third goal of the day just 25 seconds into the quarter, getting the Macs within one.
-Lebanon Valley kept the IU offense in check the rest of the first half while netting three more goals to take a four-goal lead into halftime. The Dutchmen continued to stifle the Mighty Mac attack into the second half, holding IU scoreless in the third quarter while striking for six goals to continue to build their lead.
-Steve Long netted a fourth-quarter goal to extend his season-opening goal streak to seven and Barretta converted on a man-up opportunity, but five more Lebanon Valley scores vaulted the Dutchmen to the 18-5 victory.
