Long Nets Four in Mighty Macs' First Victory at Centenary

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - The Immaculata University men's lacrosse team used a dominant fourth-quarter performance Wednesday afternoon to pick up its first win of the 2019 season at Centenary, 9-7. Steve Long netted a game-high four goals to lead the offensive attack for the Macs and Ethan Johnson added a hat trick of his own to lift the Macs to victory, while goalie Denton States made eight saves and allowed only three second half goals to pick up his first win of the season in the cage.

DJ Reimel and Ryan Ridolfi also contributed single tallies in the effort, each their first of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Despite surrendering the first goal of the afternoon at the ten-minute mark of the first quarter, the Macs stormed back with three-straight scores to gain an early advantage. Reimel started the scoring with a man-up goal to knot the contest before the end of the first before Johnson produced back-to-back scores in the first seven minutes of the second quarter to vault IU to a 3-1 lead.
-After Centenary was able to draw even at three with just under four minutes remaining in the half, Long deposited his first of four goals in the back of the net at the 2:54 mark to put the Macs back on top. The two sides went into halftime even at four apiece.
-Centenary was first to respond in the second half, taking a two-goal lead with just under six minutes left in the third quarter. IU answered right back with four-straight scores - two from Long and one each from Johnson and Ridolfi - to put the Macs back on top by a pair. Although the Cyclones cut the deficit to one with 7:47 left in regulation, the Macs limited the hosts to only five shots in the final quarter and Long provided the insurance tally with 1:41 left to lift IU to the road victory.
