SWARTHMORE, Pa – The Mighty Mac women's basketball team was upended by Swarthmore 74-51 on Saturday afternoon.
Theresa Kearney led the Macs (4-5) with 18 points while Kaitlyn Racobaldo chipped in with nine points. Jordan Rook added eight points, six rebounds and three assists in the setback.
Dana Bandurick paced Swarthmore (3-4) with a double-double, scoring 29 points and pulling in 12 rebounds. Erin Cronin added eight points and nine rebounds for the Garnet.
Immaculata got off to a strong start with its tough defense. The Mighty Macs opened up with a 7-2 run as Shannon Kelly, Kearney and Racobaldo converted layups to build an early lead.
Swarthmore responded and went on a 9-0 run to take an 11-7 lead with 1:51 remaining in the opening quarter.
Rook made a layup in the final seconds of the quarter to make it 16-14 in favor of the Garnet after 10 minutes of play.
The home team took its turn with a hot start and raced out to a 7-0 run in the second quarter to make it 23-14 at the seven-minute mark.
Kelly and Rook helped trim the lead under double-figures as it stood 23-19 with 6:28 left in the second.
Swarthmore went on a 12-2 run to close out the second quarter to build a 35-22 lead at intermission.
Kelly hit a three to open the second-half scoring but the Macs couldn't hold off the Garnet as they held a 45-27 lead at the halfway point of the third quarter.
Kearney hit a three and a jumper to keep the Macs fighting at the end of the third and had a 57-38 deficit at the end of the third. Immaculata had its best shooting percentage in the quarter and went 5-for-11 from the field.
Racobaldo scored five of her nine points in the fourth but the deficit was too much to overcome as the Garnet held on for the win.
The Mighty Macs scored 24 points in the paint and pulled in 10 offensive rebounds. Swarthmore shot nearly 50-percent from the field (28-of-58) and knocked down five three-pointers.
Immaculata will return to action next Saturday when it visits Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to face Moravian at 2 p.m.
