Women's Basketball Clipped by Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa.- The Immaculata women's basketball team was back in action on Saturday afternoon on the road against a talented non-league foe in the Moravian College Greyhounds. Despite a strong effort, Immaculata fell to its hosts by a final of 66-56.

For the second game in a row, freshman Jordan Rook set a new career-high with 14 points while teammate Brielle Rigo dropped in 14 points of her own as the only two Mighty Macs to score in double figures in the setback. Morgan Falcone set a new career-high as well as she came away with nine points thanks in large part to a 3-for-4 performance from the line.

In the opening quarter, each side traded baskets through the opening five minutes before a 14-3 run to end the quarter by the Greyhounds gave the hosts a 19-8 lead heading to the second quarter.

During the second quarter of play, scored the first 11 points of the quarter during the opening four minutes of play to trim the deficit to just one making the 19-18 with six minutes to play in the half. Moravian briefly extended its lead to 21-18 before Immaculata answered back with three-pointer from Meghan Ricker to even the score at 21-21 with 4:59 to play in the half. Unfortunately, Moravian answered with an 8-0 run of its own to claim a 29-21 lead heading to the halftime break.

The third quarter continued to be the strongest quarter of play for the Macs as the team registered a game-high 17 points while their hosts scored 17 of their own to maintain an eight-point lead heading to the fourth.

Immaculata opened the fourth quarter scoring and maintained a slim two-point cushion in the quarter through the opening 3:45 of the quarter until Moravian answered back with a three-pointer to claim a 58-49 lead midway through the quarter and a 12-11 edge in fourth quarter scoring. Following a media timeout, Immaculata answered back with a 5-2 run to cut the deficit to just six (60-54) with just five minutes to play in regulation. Down the stretch, Immaculata and Moravian traded baskets as the Greyhounds managed to hang on for the 66-56 victory over Immaculata on Saturday afternoon.

From the field, Immaculata was 19-of-52 (36.5 %) while going 7-of-18 (38.9 %) from deep and a solid 11-of-14 (78.6 %) from the charity stripe.

Overall, the rebounding battle was even as each team came away with 38 rebounds thanks in large part to six rebounds from Rigo and Meghan Ricker. This six rebound performance is also a new career-high for Ricker surpassing her previous high of four rebounds, which she set a season ago against Gwynedd Mercy.

For Moravian, Maddie Capuano led a trio of players in double figures with 26 points while Nadine Ewald posted a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds and Karlie Brogan added 10 points of her own.

Immaculata will be back in action on Wednesday evening at home against Rowan beginning at 6 p.m. before hosting Bryn Athyn on Saturday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m. in what will be the team's final game of the 2019 half of the season.
