Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Falls to Misericordia

DALLAS, Pa.- Looking to rebound from a tough setback at the hands of Albright last Tuesday afternoon, the Immaculata women's basketball team traveled to Misericordia for a non-conference battle on Wednesday evening. Misericordia used an early first quarter run to claim a commanding lead that it would never relinquish en route to the 74-54 victory.

In the first quarter, Immaculata scored the opening basket of the game, which triggered a 14-0 run from Misericordia to give the host Cougars a commanding lead midway through the opening period of play. From this point, the two teams traded baskets but the early run from Misericordia allowed the hosts to take a 20-8 lead into the second quarter of play. To open the second period of play, Immaculata continued to trade baskets with its hosts as the hosts maintained their advantage through the second quarter to carry a 40-20 lead into the halftime break.

The opening six minutes of the second half were tightly contested as neither side was able to get much separation as Immaculata registered six points with four of those points coming from the charity stripe while their hosts recorded seven points of their own to maintain the lead.  The two teams continued to trade baskets for the remainder of the quarter as Immaculata registered 11 points while its hosts came away with 12 points of their own as the contest moved to the fourth and final quarter of play.

In the fourth quarter, Misericordia opened with a 15-2 run before Immaculata answered back with a 20-5 run to close the quarter with a slim two-point (22-20) advantage. Despite this impressive run to close out the contest, Misericordia was able to hold on for the 74-54 victory over its guests on Wednesday evening, thus, returning the Mighty Macs to .500 (4-4) on the season.

Jordan Rook was the Macs leading scorer in this contest as she set a new career-high with 13 points in the setback thanks in large to a career-best 5-of-6 shooting performance from the charity stripe. Joining the freshman in double figures was Theresa Kearney who ended the game with 11 points of her own while also pulling in a team-high 10 rebounds. Shannon Kelly nearly reached double figures as well as she ended the night with nine points of her own thanks in part to a career-best seven made free throws (7-of-10) on the evening.

As a team, Immaculata ended the evening shooting just 23.9 % (16-of-67) from the field while also shooting 15.8 % (3-of-19) from deep and 57.6 % (19-of-33) from the line.

For Misericordia, Jordan Barth led all scorers including a trio of Cougars in double figures with 17 points while also pulling down 11 rebounds while teammate Tessa Zamoyli ended the evening with 13 points and 13 rebounds of her own. Erica Haefele was the lone other Cougar in double figures as she ended with 14 points of her own in the victory.

Immaculata will be back in action on Saturday afternoon at Swarthmore for another non-league battle with that contest set to begin at 1 p.m.
