IMMACULATA, Pa.-For the final time in 2019, the Immaculata women's basketball team was back in action on Saturday afternoon inside Alumnae Hall against the Bryn Athyn College Lions. An impressive second half that saw the Macs outscore their opponents 43-28 to roll to the 77-58 victory on Saturday afternoon.
Annie Kohutka led all scorers with 18 points while
Theresa Kearney added 15 points of her own and
Jordan Rook chipped in 12 as the third and final Mighty Mac in double figures.
In the first quarter, Bryn Athyn jumped out to an early lead with an 11-4 over the first seven minutes of play to claim its first lead of the game. Immaculata and Bryn Athyn traded baskets to end the quarter as the Lions carried a slim 16-10 lead to the second quarter.
In the second quarter of play, Immaculata was firing on all cylinders as the Macs outscored their guests 24-14 to carry a 34-30 lead into the halftime break.
Annie Kohutka was the games leading scorer at the halftime break with 14 while
Jordan Rook added eight points of her own on 3-of-6 shooting while also going 2-of-4 from deep.
In the third quarter, Immaculata followed a trend it has followed for much of the season opening the stanza with an impressive 18-3 run over the first 5:45 of the quarter, which prompted a Bryn Athyn timeout with the Lions trailing 52-33. Following the timeout, Bryn Athyn went on a 6-0 run, which cut the score to 52-39 with just under 2:30 to play in the third quarter. At the end of the third quarter, Immaculata led 59-44 after trading baskets throughout the balance of the quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Immaculata and Bryn Athyn traded baskets throughout the frame as Immaculata cruised to the 77-58 victory.
Bryn Athyn ended the contest with a slim +2 (40-38) edge in rebounding while Immaculata ended the contest with advantages in most other major categories. In a game that featured 63 turnovers between the two teams, Immaculata ended the contest with a 31-15 edge in points off turnovers, which was a key factor in the victory.
As a team, Immaculata shot 31-of-70 (44.3 %) from the field while going 5-for-23 (21.7 %) from deep. Immaculata also went 10-of-16 (62.5 %) from the line in the victory.
Immaculata will now enjoy a break before its next game on Monday, January 6 at home against Penn State-Brandywine in a final tune-up before conference play begins.
