Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Falls to Rowan

IMMACULATA, Pa.- After a road trip that spanned nearly a month, the Immaculata University women's basketball team returned home on Wednesday evening to square off against a talented non-league foe in Rowan. A first half run by the visitors proved to be the difference as Rowan accomplished a feat that had only been accomplished by one other team this season escaping Alumnae Hall with a 77-62 victory over Immaculata.

In the first quarter of play, Rowan opened the game with a 15-3 run, which spanned the first eight minutes of play before Immaculata responded with a 7-4 run to close out the quarter trailing by just nine points (19-10).

In the second quarter of play, Immaculata scored the opening basket of the frame before Rowan answered with a 12-5 run over the next seven and a half minutes to claim a 16-point (31-15) late in the first half. Immaculata outscored its guests 6-5 over the course of the final 2:25, which kept the deficit where it was making the score 36-21 heading to the halftime break.

Theresa Kearney was the Macs leading scorer in the first half of play dropping in a game-high 14 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the field while also going a perfect 4-for-4 from the stripe through the opening 20 minutes.

In the second half, Immaculata strung together its best two offensive quarters of the evening highlighted by a fourth quarter performance, which saw the Macs outscore their guests 21-13 to climb back into the contest late. Unfortunately, the early deficit proved to be too much to overcome in the 77-62 setback on Wednesday evening.

Kearney ended the contest leading all scorers in scoring with 23 points on 8-of-18 shooting from the field including a 1-for-2 shooting effort from beyond the arc.  The junior was also a perfect 6-of-6 from the line. This 23-point performance is also a new season-high for Kearney while falling just three points shy of her career-high of 26. Morgan Falcone had an impressive second half performance, which led to the freshman setting career-highs in points (13) and rebounding (6).

Brielle Rigo ended the contest as the team's leading rebounder with 15 rebounds thanks in part to nine defensive boards in the setback.

As a team, Immaculata shot 22-of-74 (29.7 %) from the field while also going 7-for-27 (25.9 %) from beyond the arc. The Macs were also perfect from the line for the second time this season as the team went 11-for-11 in the setback, which boosted the teams free throw shooting percentage on the year to 75.7 %, which ranks atop the Atlantic East.

For Rowan, the Profs utilized a balanced attack as Grace Marshall led five Rowan players in double figures scoring 15 points of her own while Alexis Krilley chipped in 14 to rank second on the team in scoring in the victory. Ayanna Johnson was a threat on the glass throughout the evening coming away with a game-high eight blocks while also pulling in a game-high 17 rebounds.

The Macs will be back in action on Saturday afternoon in what will be the team's final home game of 2019 against Bryn Athyn beginning at 1 p.m. inside Alumnae Hall.
