IMMACULATA, Pa.- Just one week after defeating Neumann on senior day, Immaculata welcomed Neumann once again for the Atlantic East Quarterfinals inside Draper Walsh Stadium on Saturday afternoon. After trading goals in the first half, it was an overtime game-winner by
Miranda Rojas, which lifted the Macs to the thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over Neumann.
This victory advances Immaculata back to the Atlantic East semifinals for the second year in a row as the Macs continue their quest to return to the Atlantic East Championship game in 2019.
How it Happened:
- In the first half of play, Neumann opened the scoring with a goal during the 12 minute before Riley Rudd answered back with a goal of her own during the 14th minute to even the score at 1-1. Each side had its chances throughout the balance of the first half but neither side was able to capitalize, thus, sending the game to the half even at 1-1.
- In the second half of play, each side had its opportunities but strong defensive play and some bad luck kept the score even at 1-1, thus, forcing overtime.
- In overtime, Miranda Rojas scored the game-winner off a Rudd corner just under three minutes into the extra frame, which lifted Immaculata to the thrilling 2-1 victory over Neumann.
- Brooke Shissler played well between the pipes for Immaculata making nine big saves while her counterpart made nine saves of her own in the setback.
Inside the Box Score:
- Neumann ended the contest with a narrow 16-14 edge in shots while Immaculata ended the game with an 11-10 advantage in shots on goal.
- Neumann also ended the contest with a slight 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Up Next:
Immaculata will now begin scoreboard watching as the Macs will have to wait for the results of the Marymount vs Cabrini game later this afternoon to determine whether they will travel to top-seed Marywood or second-seed Wesley for the Atlantic East semifinals on Wednesday evening.
