Women's Basketball Rolls Past Bryn Mawr in Non-Conference Action

IMMACULATA, Pa.- On the heels of a narrow loss at the hands of Haverford in its home opener on Tuesday evening, Immaculata returned to the court on Thursday night to face another local rival in the Bryn Mawr College Owls. After a tightly-contested first quarter of play, Immaculata used a strong second quarter performance to cruise to the 80-46 victory on Thursday evening.

After trailing for only one minute and 34 seconds in the first quarter of play, Immaculata dominated the remaining three quarters of the contest stretching its lead to as many as 37 with just over one minute to play in the final quarter of play. Overall, Immaculata held the lead for 36:24 seconds of play finding itself tied with Bryn Mawr just twice with both of those occurrences coming in the first quarter.

This 34-point victory is also the largest margin of victory for the Mighty Macs since January 21, 2017 when the team rolled past Cedar Crest by a final of 79-37.
Theresa Kearney led a trio of Mighty Macs in double figures as the junior scored 20 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the field while Shannon Kelly and Jordan Rook each ended with 11 points of their own in the victory. Kelly was nearly lights out on the evening as the veteran guard shot 3-of-4 from the field including a perfect 1-for-1 from three and 4-for-4 from the charity stripe while Rook went 4-for-7 from the field and 3-of-5 from the stripe.

In the first quarter, Immaculata raced out to an early lead before a mid-quarter run from Bryn Mawr closed the gap and kept the game tied for much of the opening stanza. Immaculata scored a late basket and stiffened defensively to end the first quarter of play with a slim 13-11 lead.

During the second quarter of play, Immaculata and Bryn Mawr traded baskets throughout the early part of the quarter before Immaculata went on an impressive run to outscore its guests 23-10 in the period to carry a commanding 36-21 lead into the halftime break after stretching its lead to as many as 17 with just over 1:30 to play in the first half.
In the first half of play, Kearney was exceptional as she scored 34 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field while also pulling down four rebounds to help Immaculata take a commanding lead.

In the third quarter, Bryn Mawr opened the scoring in the opening minute of the half with what would be the only made field goal by either side in the opening three minutes of the half. Immaculata countered with a pair of free throws from Kearney with 7:22 to play in the quarter, which started an Immaculata offensive effort that would see the Macs outscore their guests 24-8 to carry a commanding 31-point, 60-29 lead into the fourth and final quarter of play.

In the final quarter of play, the two sides traded baskets as Immaculata found itself on brief runs throughout the quarter, however, Bryn Mawr found some offensive success as well as the Owls registered 17 points in the final quarter, which was a game-high for the visitors. Immaculata poured in 20 points of its own in the final stanza, which gave the Macs their largest lead of the game late in the quarter while also powering the home team to the 80-46 victory.

As a team, Immaculata shot 26-of-61 (42.6 %) from the field while going 3-of-15 (20.0 %) from beyond the arc and 25-of-32 (78.1 %) from the charity stripe. The team's best shooting performances of the contest came during the second and third quarters when the Mighty Macs shot an even 50.0 % from the field in each of those quarters. Immaculata also ended the contest with an impressive +11 edge in rebounding behind a game-high eight rebounds from Kearney.

Additionally, Immaculata also ended the game with a 23-9 advantage in points off turnovers, a 36-12 edge in points in the paint, a 9-7 edge in second chance points, a 22-2 edge in points off fast breaks, and a 31-19 advantage in points off the bench.

For Bryn Mawr, Laya Paladugu, turned in the top offensive output of the game finishing with 14 points thanks in large part to a 9-of-12 performance from the line while also tying for the team-high in rebound with five boards on the evening. As a team, Bryn Mawr shot 13-of-51 (25.5 %) from the field while going 2-of-10 (20.0 %) from deep and 18-of-25 (72.0 %) from the line in the loss.

Immaculata will return to the court on Saturday afternoon on the road at Cedar Crest before returning home to face Cairn next Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. in what will be the team's final home game until the middle of December.
