IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata University field hockey squad was back in action on Wednesday evening in its Atlantic East opener against crosstown rival Cabrini. After a scoreless first half, each team found the back of the net once in the second half of play to send the game to overtime where Cabrini prevailed by a final of 2-1.
How it Happened:
- In the first quarter of play, Immaculata and Cabrini both had their chances, however, neither side was able to break through, thus, sending the game to the second even at 0-0.
- The story remained the same during the second quarter of play as each team continued to threaten but a stellar defensive effort from both teams kept the game scoreless heading to the halftime break.
- In the 36th minute, Layne Kennedy broke the scoreless tie depositing a rebound off a rocket from Shannon Lozier following a Mighty Mac penalty corner, which gave the Macs a 1-0 lead heading to the fourth quarter.
- In the 48th minute, Cabrini evened the score via a penalty stroke that barely slipped through to even the score at 1-1, which would eventually send the game to overtime marking the third time this season the Macs have taken an opponent to an extra session.
- In overtime, Cabrini scored just under two minutes into the extra session to earn the 2-1 victory and drop Immaculata to 1-2 in overtime contests this season.
Inside the Box Score:
- Cabrini ended the contest with a 17-12 edge in shots and a 14-7 edge in shots on goal.
- Cabrini also ended the game with a narrow 7-6 edge in penalty corners.
- Randie Kuhar had a strong day between the pipes making 12 great saves in the setback.

Immaculata will be back in action on Saturday on the road at Gwynedd Mercy with that contest set to begin at 3 p.m.
