Late Comeback Falls Short in Field Hockey Setback vs Gwynedd Mercy

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa.- On the heels of a heart breaking loss vs Cabrini to open Atlantic East play on Wednesday evening, the Immaculata University field hockey team took to the road on Saturday looking to bounce back against Gwynedd Mercy. Immaculata registered a late goal in the fourth quarter but it was not enough to complete the comeback in the 2-1 setback on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened:
  • In the first quarter, Gwynedd Mercy opened the scoring just minutes into the game to claim an early 1-0 lead, which held up until the fourth quarter of play.
  • In the fourth, Gwynedd Mercy extended its lead to 2-0 with just under 10 minutes to play in regulation before Immaculata answered back with a goal of its own as Layne Kennedy finished a cross from Macy Green in front to trim the deficit to just one late in the contest.
  • Unfortunately, this is as close as the Macs would get as Gwynedd Mercy stood tall defensively over the course of the final two minutes of play to earn the 2-1 victory over Immaculata.
  • Randie Kuhar worked hard in goal yet again making five saves while facing seven shots on goal and 12 shots overall in the setback.
Inside the Box Score:
  • Gwynedd Mercy ended the game with a slim 12-9 edge in shots and a 7-6 advantage in shots on goal.
  • The Griffins also ended the contest with a slight 10-8 edge in penalty corners.
Up Next:
Immaculata will be back in action next week with a pair of non-conference games on Monday at Misericordia beginning at 7 p.m. before returning home on Wednesday evening to face DeSales beginning at 5 p.m. Following these two non-league matchups, Immaculata will travel to Neumann on Saturday afternoon for a pivotal Atlantic East matchup.
