IMMACULATA, Pa. - Freshman goalkeeper
Brooke Shissler made a staggering 21 saves in Immaculata University women's soccer's home opener Monday night against Albright, but the Lions' offensive attack was ultimately too much for the Macs, who fell 2-0.
Morgan McDonough led the Mighty Macs with three shots - two on goal - on the night, followed by
Riley Rudd with two of her own.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The match began with neither side holding the advantage in possession as Immaculata and Albright primarily played in the middle third. McDonough had the first good look on goal for the Macs in the eighth minute, but it was met with a save.
-Albright was awarded a corner kick in the 13th minute and Autumn Beiber lofted a high ball in front of the net that was met with a scrum of players from both sides before Jillian Lapidus knocked a deflection into the back of the net for the game's first goal.
-The Macs had their chances in the closing minutes of the first half as
Taylor Bracy and
Riley Rudd each had attempts on goal, but the Lions carried the one-goal lead into the break.
-In the 58th minute, Beiber again took a corner that resulted in a goal, this time assisting on Olivia Donkus' strike into the upper 90 of the net.
-Shissler was put to the test all night in net, making several sprawling saves in the second half on a handful of Albright breakaways that resulted in one-on-one opportunities. The rookie currently holds a .926 save percentage through her first two games.
