LA PLUME, Pa. - The Immaculata University women's soccer team netted a season-high five goals - four of which came in the second half - to down former conference for Keystone on the road Thursday, 5-2.
Riley Rudd led the Macs with a pair of tallies while
Morgan McDonough,
Carly Quigley and
Julia Schumacher each added single goals to join in on the offensive outburst. Schumacher's tally marked the first of her career, while McDonough's was her first since the 2016 season after missing all of last year due to injury.
Freshman goalkeeper
Maddy Terry made two saves to pick up her first career win in net.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Mighty Macs put the pressure on the Giants from the onset of the match, as
Carly Quigley was awarded a direct kick at the 9' minute mark and did not waste her opportunity, burying her shot from 30 yards out.
-IU took just a one-goal lead into the half despite the quick score, but the Macs were in total control with a 12-3 advantage in shots in the opening half.
-Keystone evened the match at one apiece just 16 seconds into the second half.
-Merely 20 minutes later in the 66th minute, Rudd regained the lead for the Macs -with her first goal of the afternoon after taking a feed from Schumacher.
-Just three minutes later, Schumacher doubled the Macs' lead with her first career goal at the 69' mark.
-The Giants threatened to inch their way back into the match with a 78th minute goal, but Rudd extended the IU lead back to two with her second tally of the afternoon - marking her team-leading fifth goal of the season.
-McDonough capped off the day with her first goal of the season on an assist from
Eleana Kriebel.
TEAM COMPARISON
-The Macs outshot the Giants by a wide margin, 28-6, and also led in the shots on goal category, 15-4.
-IU was awarded five corners opposite Keystone's four.
