Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Macs Falter Late to Stevenson Following Lengthy Delay

IMMACULATA, Pa. - The Immaculata University men's soccer team was forced to deal with some early, yet uncontrollable, adversity Wednesday night at Draper Walsh Stadium as the Macs and visiting Stevenson sat through a two-hour, 40 minute rain and lightening delay just after the 9' mark. Once the two sides took the field and resumed play just before 10 p.m., the Mustangs were able to come out victorious in a tightly contested match, 1-0, thanks to a 76' free kick that graced the upper right 90 of the net.

Keeper Mikey Kalpokas played a superb game in net for the Macs, making a game-high 12 saves in the effort to keep the game within reach all night long.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Macs and Mustangs were forced to halt play in the ninth minute as lightning and heavy rain entered the area. The delay lasted just over two hours and 40 minutes before the two sides were able to take the field again and complete the remainder of the match.
-The two sides engaged in a very physical, back-and-forth style of play early on as through balls were often mishandled or turned over to the opposing side, resulting in a scoreless first half.
-Kalpokas was terrific in net all night for the Macs, making several sprawling saves on deflections inside the box and one-on-one opportunities with a quick Stevenson front line.
-In the 76th minute, DR Medtart was awarded a free kick at the top of the 18 after taking a fall due to slight contact with a Mighty Mac defender. Medtart lofted his free kick over the top of the wall and into the top right corner of the net to take the lead, resulting in the 1-0 victory.
