ANNVILLE, Pa. - Despite facing an early first half deficit Thursday at Lebanon Valley, the Immaculata University field hockey team battled back to get within a goal but ultimately fell to the Dutchmen, 3-2.
Hilary Burkholder and
Willa Thompson each netted their fourth goals of the season in the effort, while
Randie Kuhar made a game-high 12 stops in net.
With the result, the Mighty Macs conclude their six-game road trip.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Mighty Macs found themselves in an early hole as the Dutchmen raced out to a 2-0 lead with scores in the first three minutes.
-Lebanon Valley took the 2-0 lead all the way into the half, while also holding a 14-1 advantage in shots.
-The tide turned in the second half, however, as the Macs got on the board in the latter parts of the period.
Willa Thompson's pass to
Hilary Burkholder got through the goalie and Burkholder deposited it in the back of the cage.
-The Dutchmen jumped back out to a two-goal lead six minutes later, but Thompson cut the deficit to one with her fourth goal of the season with just over three minutes left in the contest.
-The Macs were unable to complete the comeback in the final few minutes as Lebanon Valley escaped with the 3-2 victory.
