READING, Pa. - The Immaculata University men's soccer team came into Monday night's match at Alvernia looking to string together consecutive road victories, but fell to the Golden Wolves in the non-conference match, 4-0. Freshman goalkeeper
Garrett Pepper made ten saves in his first collegiate start in the effort.
With the result, the Macs fall to 4-5-1 on the season with two games remaining before the start of Atlantic East Conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Mighty Macs were tested early and often from the onset of the match, as Alvernia had three opportunities on net in the first eight minutes. The Golden Wolves opened the scoring shortly after when a ball deflected off Pepper to the foot of Ethan LaVerdure who deposited it in the back of the net.
-The Macs began to shuffle players on and off the field by the midpoint of the opening half, but were unable to convert on any of their looks on goal as Alvernia took a one-goal lead into the break.
-Immaculata came out of halftime on a mission, as the Macs earned three corners in the opening five minutes that resulted in shots on goal from
Chad Catalana and
Nick Boule, but both came up empty.
-The Golden Wolves responded by netting their second goal of the night in the 55th minute, before putting the game out of reach with two more tallies in the 82nd and 87th minutes.
TEAM COMPARISON
-The Mighty Macs were outshot on the night, 19-5. Alvernia also held the edge in shots on goal, 14-3.
-IU was awarded nine corners on the night compared to Alvernia's three.
