IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata University field hockey team was unable to overcome an early deficit Tuesday night against visiting Haverford, falling 4-1 in the non-conference matchup.
Layne Kennedy scored for the second-straight game in the effort, upping her team-leading goal total to four on the season.
Randie Kuhar made a season-high 13 saves in the effort for the Macs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Macs faced an early hole at Draper Walsh Stadium Tuesday as the Fords jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute of the game on an Emma Iacobucci goal.
-Merely 13 minutes later, the Fords doubled their lead on a tally by Ariana Sulpizio after
Randie Kuhar made a great kick save, but the deflection could not be cleared.
-Kuhar made seven great saves in the opening half to keep the Macs in contention at a two-goal deficit.
-Trailing by two out of the break, the Macs surrendered the third goal of the game after a Haverford clear down the left side resulted in Iacobucci's second goal.
-With the Macs trailing by four in the final minute of regulation,
Brittany Richards fired off a shot from six feet out that was blocked by the Haverford keeper, but
Layne Kennedy was there to control the deflection and fire a shot to the back of the cage, her second in as many games.
TEAM COMPARISON
-Haverford held the edge in shots (26-7) and shots on goal (18-6) in the contest.
-The Fords were awarded eight penalty corners on the night opposite the Macs' five.
