Macs Start Quick, Ultimately Fall to Bryn Athyn

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. - The Immaculata University men's lacrosse team looked poised to put a halt to its two-game losing skid with two quick goals Saturday at Bryn Athyn, but the Lions powered past the Macs with nine unanswered tallies to come away with a 14-5 victory.

Steven Long and Brian Shultis led the Macs with two goals apiece, while Shultis led all players with three points on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Steven Long's unassisted goal opened the scoring just eight seconds into the game to give the Macs and early lead. Nearly six minutes later, Brian Shultis found the back of the net for the sixth-straight game to extend the lead to two.
-The IU defense was incredibly strong in the first quarter, holding Bryn Athyn scoreless for the first 12 minutes. However, three Lion goals in the final three minutes gave the hosts the lead at the end of the first.
-The Lions added two more tallies to start the second quarter, extending the lead to three, but Long put an end to the IU scoring drought at the 10:59 mark to cut the deficit to two.
-The Macs would not score again until the five minute mark of the fourth quarter, while the Lions netted nine unanswered goals after Long's tally to take a 14-3 lead.
-Shultis and Mike Reardon each had a goal in the final five minutes of the contest to close out the day for the Macs.

TEAM COMPARISON
-Bryn Athyn held the shot advantage at 29-18, and the led in shots on goal with 20 opposite IU's 15.
-Immaculata forced Bryn Athyn into 16 turnovers.
-IU was successful on 8-of-12 clear attempts; the Lions were 14-of-15.
-The Macs grabbed 24 ground balls, three less than the Lions' 27.
-Immaculata won 9-of-21 faceoffs on the day.
