IMMACULATA, Pa. - The Immaculata University women's volleyball team hosted its annual 'Dig Pink' match Saturday afternoon at Alumnae Hall against Neumann, falling in three sets to the Knights in the Atlantic East Conference matchup. The Mighty Macs battled to the final point in the first set, falling by a slim two-point margin, and were unable to fight their way back after facing the early deficit.
Sara Desmond had a match-high 18 digs in the effort, while
Shelby Belk registered four blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Mighty Macs were in control for a majority of the opening set, jumping out to a 14-8 lead by forcing the Knights into several errors.
-The Knights cut into the deficit to make it a four-point IU advantage, and eventually knotted the set at 21-all on a 3-0 run. A
Sara Desmond kill tied the match yet again - this time at 23 - but the Knights rallied to take the final two points and the set, 25-23.
-Immaculata got right back into its groove in the early stages of the second set and led by as much as three. The Knights rallied back to tie the score at ten, but the Macs took five of the next eight points to jump out ahead by two at 15-13 thanks to kills from
Shelby Belk,
Madi Curley and
Gerri Passalacqua.Â
-Neumann responded with a 6-0 scoring run of its own, and won six of the final nine points to take the second set, 25-19.
-Neumann went on to take the third and final set, 25-12, to take the match, 3-0.
