SCRANTON, Pa. - The Immaculata University women's volleyball team rallied back from a six-point deficit in the first set to take the opener 25-22, but the Mighty Macs were unable to take control of the final three sets against host Marywood, falling to the Pacers 3-1 Wednesday night.
Down 21-15 late in the first set, the Macs tore off a 10-1 run to claim the set victory to open the night in Scranton.
Shelby Belk led the Macs with seven kills, while
Natalie Dependahl and
Sara Desmond contributed ten digs apiece.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-After dropping the first point of the match, the Mighty Macs took control of the first set with three consecutive kills, one each from
Sara Desmond,
Shelby Belk and
Madi Curley. The Macs extended their lead to three at 10-7, but Marywood fought back with a 4-0 run to knot the set at 11.
-The Pacers put together another 4-0 run to take a 15-11 lead, and later stretched it out to a six-point difference at 21-15 in the latter stages of the set. The Macs erased the deficit and then some, ripping off a 10-1 run to end the set with a 25-22 victory. Curley was credited with four service aces during that stretch, while
Olivia Zdradzinski added a pair of kills.
-Immaculata was unable to carry the momentum from the thrilling, come-from-behind first-set victory, as the Pacers rallied for three-straight 25-16 set wins to take the match, 3-1.
