IMMACULATA, Pa.- The fourth-seeded Immaculata men's soccer team (9-9-1) is heading to the Atlantic East Semifinals after defeating the fifth-seeded Marymount Saints on Tuesday night by a score of 1-0 in overtime on a game-winner by freshman
Jacob Fitzgerald. The win is the first IU postseason win since 2009 and the Macs will travel to top-seeded Neumann on Thursday in the first ever Atlantic East Conference men's soccer postseason tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Macs controlled the pace for much of the first half and sprinkled in some solid chances, the best of which came off the head of senior
Alex Noel off a good pass from senior
Eric Case, but the keeper stopped the attempt and the game was scoreless heading into the second half
-The second half started out as a heavy possession period as each team tried to take the lead, but the score held at 0-0
-With just under 15 minutes remaining, the Macs had their best chances of the day as Noel hit a shot from the top right hand side of the box that was stopped by a diving keeper, and on the ensuing corner,, freshman
Jacob Fitzgerald was just wide with his attempt and the game went to overtime
-In the extra period, junior
Nick Boule sent a corner into the box that went to the far side and Fitzgerald was waiting as he blasted a shot that got through the keeper for the first goal of his career and an Atlantic East Quarterfinal victory

-The Macs outshot the Saints, 12-5, with a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal
-IU took nine corners to just one for Marymount
