BETHLEHEM, Pa.- The Immaculata University field hockey team is off to its best start in more than 20 years as they moved to 3-0 on the young season with a 2-0 victory over Moravian College on Thursday night. The Mighty Macs have now gone three consecutive games without allowing a goal for the first time since 2011, and IU has their first three game winning streak since 2013.
Much like Saturday, junior
Cayla Williams and senior
Brittany Robertson provided the goals, and senior goalie
Sarah Pasternak, who was recently named CSAC Defender of the Week, collected a season-high 12 saves as she recorded her third consecutive shutout.
Senior
Meredith Katona had a defensive save as well.
The game was tightly contested all night long with the Mighty Macs holding a narrow 17-16 advantage in shots, but they were able to net the only two goals of the night.
In the first half, Williams would score her second eventual game-winner of the season, and her second goal of the year on a shot off a rebound with 5:39 to go before the break to give the Mighty Macs a 1-0 advantage. IU would hold that 1-0 lead heading into the locker room after Pasternak made five of her 12 stops in the first half.
Shortly after halftime, Robertson put the game away with a blast from the right side on a breakaway to give the Mighty Macs a 2-0 lead that they would hold onto the rest of the contest.
IU will look to win their fourth straight to start the season this Saturday when they return to Draper Walsh Stadium to host Swarthmore at 12 p.m.
