CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa.- The Immaculata women's soccer team (2-1) improved their Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) record to 2-1 with an offensive outburst in a 9-2 victory over Clarks Summit (1-7, 0-3 CSAC) on the road on Tuesday afternoon. The nine goals is the most the Mighty Macs have scored since October 8
th, 2011 in a 9-0 win over Keystone.
IU had eight different goal scorers on the day, as freshman
Courtney Stinger was the only Mac with two goals, the first two of her career. Senior
Rachel Lamb set a new Immaculata team record with three assists on the day and added one goal, while senior
Carly Mirarchi had one goal and two assists for four points.
Freshman
Amanda Sroka netted the first goal of her career and senior
Tina Rosario scored the first goal of her IU career as well. Senior
Erica Buckley, sophomore
Carrie Quigley, and sophomore
Morgan McDonough each got on the scoreboard for IU.
For the day, the Mighty Macs outshot Clarks Summit, 28-12, and junior
Allie Tracey had three saves in the cage for the win.
Buckley scored the first goal on a cross pass from the left side from Mirarchi to put IU up 1-0 five minutes in. Less than two minutes later, Lamb hit a shot that flew over the goalie's head to stake the Macs to the 2-0 advantage.
The score would hold there until the 35
th minute when Lamb provided the helper on a goal to Mirarchi, and three minutes later, it was Lamb again feeding McDonough for her first goal of the season and a 4-0 IU lead.
Stinger netted the first goal of her young career with 1:09 on the clock before halftime to put the Macs in front 5-0 heading into the locker room.
Stinger wasted little time in turning in the first multi-goal game of her career as she scored on an assist from Mirarchi less than two minutes into the second half. Quigley cashed in her third goal of the season on a breakaway in the 56
th minute to make it 7-0.
The Defenders got on the board in the 58
th minute, but the Macs responded with the goal from Rosario on a shot to the upper right corner on Lamb's record-setting third assist.
Clark Summit again scored in the 71
st minute, but Sroka put the finishing touches on the win after beating the keeper one on one to the lower right corner as the Macs won 9-2.
The Macs will play a pivotal CSAC game on Thursday as they host Cairn at 4 p.m.
