IMMACULATA, Pa.-Â On Saturday afternoon in game two of a triple header at Draper Walsh Stadium, Immaculata field hockey (4-4) took on the Wilson College Phoenix (2-3) and the Macs would ultimately win by a final score of 3-0.
In the first half the Macs dominated the possession as they outshot the Phoenix by a 12-7 margin. The Macs had strong play on the defensive end as senior goalie
Sarah Pasternak and company were able to stop the Phoenix offense recording four saves in the first half of play. The Phoenix also had some strong play in the pipes as junior goalie Kayla Butts worked hard to keep the Macs to just one goal. The Macs were able to breakthrough in the 18
th minute off when they had a penalty corner as junior
Megan Donegan got a pass on the near post from fellow junior
Cayla Williams and she did not miss it depositing it in the back of the net. This along with the strong defensive play proved to be enough to allow the Macs to head to the locker room with a 1-0 lead over the visitors.
In the second half, the Macs offense remained hot as they were able to score again in the 45
th minute when
Hilary Burkholder deposited a pass from Donegan into the back of the net to give the Macs a 2-0 lead. The Macs would score again in the 52
nd minute when freshman
Colleen Bradley got a great pass from senior
Meredith Katona to score the first goal of her career. Pasternak and company would play well to keep the Phoenix off the board recording five saves including two defensive saves by senior
Megan Wheeler and Katona. The shutout was the fourth of the season for the Mighty Macs.
The Macs next contest will be Monday at Arcadia as IU continues in non-conference play.
