Field Hockey Falls At Goucher, 4-1

Box Score

TOWSON, Md.- The IU field hockey team (5-7) travelled to Goucher on Wednesday afternoon looking to get back in the win column before heading to Gwynedd Mercy for a pivotal Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) matchup on Saturday, but the Macs fell into a hole early and were never able to recover in a 4-1 loss.

Freshman Layne Kennedy netted her second goal of the season while freshman Maura Power registered her first career assist.

The Macs were outshot 15-9 on the day, but held an 8-4 advantage in penalty corners, including 7-1 in the first half.

Senior Sarah Pasternak (5-7) made five saves while surrendering four goals in just over 42 minutes of action.  Senior Emily Beavers played the remainder of the game in the cage and made one save.

The Macs seemed to dominate the pace in the first half with a 6-5 shot advantage and 7-1 edge in corners, but the Gophers scored the lone goal of the period in the 21st minute.

After the break, Goucher scored three goals in a 1:31 span to take the 4-0 lead with 28 minutes to go in the contest.  Kennedy got the Macs on the board on the helper from Power in the 47th minute, but it wasn't enough in the loss.

The Macs will now switch back over to CSAC play as they head to Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday hoping to improve their 1-1 conference record.
