Mighty Macs Edged In Overtime At Keystone, 2-1

Box Score

LA PLUME, Pa.- The Immaculata field hockey team (5-11, 1-3 CSAC) travelled to Keystone for a pivotal Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) matchup that would have large playoff implications, and after playing to a 1-1 through the first 70 minutes of play, the Giants (5-7, 2-2 CSAC) scored the game-winner in the 82nd minute to deal the Macs a tough defeat.  In order to qualify for the CSAC postseason, the Mighty Macs will likely have to win their final three games of the season.

Junior Nicole Dominick scored her first goal of the season and senior Sarah Pasternak tied her season-high with 20 saves on the afternoon in an outstanding effort for the senior keeper.  Sophomore Hilary Burkholder led the squad with four shots, all on goal, and the Macs were outshot 25-16 on the day, but held a 12-11 advantage on penalty corners.

IU did not waste much time getting on the scoreboard as Dominick was denied twice from in close on a penalty corner, but her third attempt got past the keeper for a 1-0 lead.  The Macs would continue to control the pace for much of the first half, but were unable to add to their lead as they took the one goal advantage to the locker room.

In the second half, the Giants increased the pressure and finally broke through in the 48th minute as a pass from outside the circle was deflected in to knot the game at 1-1.  The game would hold for the final 22 minutes, and the teams went to overtime, a first for the Macs this season.

In the overtime period, Keystone dominated possession and eventually scored the game-winner in the 82nd minute to deal the Macs a 2-1 loss.

IU will look to regroup on Wednesday when they host Notre Dame at 4 p.m. at Draper Walsh Stadium.
