Box Score ASTON, Pa.- The Immaculata women's soccer team moved to 2-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) in thrilling fashion as they defeated Neumann (1-5, 1-1 CSAC) by a score of 3-2 in double overtime on junior
Erica Buckley's third goal of the season. The Macs last started 2-0 in conference play in 2013 when they last went to the CSAC postseason, and this is the first win for IU against the Knights since 2010.
After heading into overtime tied at 2-2, the teams stayed level into the second overtime when the Mighty Macs (2-4-1, 2-0 CSAC) had a great chance on a penalty kick by junior
Elizabeth Dudas, who already had two goals on the day, but her effort was stopped by the Neumann keeper. The Macs were not going to be denied as junior
Bridget Polansky found Buckley and she deposited the game-winner to give IU the victory.
Immaculata had 13 shots on the game to Neumann's 26, but senior goalie
Elizabeth McBride had nine saves on the day to earn the victory.
Neumann got the scoring started in the eighth minute on a goal by Jamie King on a big shot from just outside the 18, and the score would stay there the rest of the first half as the Knights outshot IU, 10-4, in the opening 45 minutes.
Just like on Saturday in their comeback win over Cairn, the Mighty Macs came out on fire in the second half. Dudas got her first goal of the day and second of the season on a breakaway that she tapped past the keeper in the 57
th minute, and then she added her second of the day and third of the season in the 61
st minute on a penalty kick to give the Macs a 2-1 lead.
The lead would hold until the 81
st minute when the Knights tied the game 2-2 on a goal by Lexi Casper, which sent the game to extra time where the Macs would prevail.
Immaculata will now look to move to 3-0 in conference play when they host Marywood on Saturday at 1 p.m.
