Box Score LANGHORNE, Pa.- Trailing 1-0 in their Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opener at Cairn (2-4, 0-1 CSAC), the Mighty Macs took control in the second half with three goals in an 11-minute span en route to a 3-1 victory over the Highlanders. The win moves the Mighty Macs (1-4-1) to 1-0 in the CSAC and also gets them their first victory of the 2015 campaign.
Junior
Carly Mirarchi scored her first goal of the season and the seventh of her career, while junior
Elizabeth Dudas and sophomore
Nicole Catania each scored the first goal of their careers.
Senior goalie
Elizabeth McBride had a great game in goal making 15 saves to preserve the Immaculata victory.
McBride was especially impressive in the first half as she made nine of her 15 stops. Cairn controlled the play for much of the first half, registering 16 shots, but the Macs were able to keep them off the board until the 44th minute when Meghan Wilson scored her seventh goal of the season to give the Highlanders a 1-0 halftime lead.
The second half was a different story as the Mighty Macs were able to convert some chances. Mirarchi knotted the game in the 58th minute as she scored a shot from deep to tie the game 1-1 with just over 30 minutes remaining.
IU kept the pressure up as just 55 seconds later they took the lead. Junior
Rachel Lamb delivered a pass and Dudas finished it on the other end in what would eventually be the game-winner.
In the 69th minute, the Macs got a big insurance goal from Catania to extend their lead to 3-1.
Immaculata would then hold the final 21 minutes and defeat Cairn for the conference-opening victory.
The Mighty Macs will look to make it two CSAC victories in a row when they travel to Neumann on Wednesday afternoon for a 4 p.m. start.
