Box Score

IMMACULATA, Pa.- In their Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opener, the Immaculata women's soccer team hosted Cairn (2-3-0, 1-1-0 CSAC) looking to start their CSAC season well, but the Highlanders scored a goal in each half to down the Mighty Macs (0-7-0, 0-1-0 CSAC) by a score of 2-0.

The game was deadlocked for much of the first half with each team generating a couple chances, but Cairn cashed in late to take a 1-0 lead.  With less than two minutes remaining in the half Alcia Curry hit a shot to the lower left corner of the net past a diving Meghan McCurnin for the Highlander lead heading to the locker room.

In the second half, Courtney Novak slipped behind the defense and found the back of the net for the two-goal lead.

Immaculata pushed up and applied more offensive pressure in an attempt to cut into the deficit.  The best chance came with 13 minutes remaining when freshman Rosemarie Reitman settled a bouncing ball and hit a shot that the Cairn keeper dived to save and keep the Mighty Macs off the scoreboard.

IU continued to push up, but they were unable to breakthrough in the 2-0 CSAC defeat.

McCurnin made four saves on the day and sophomore Carly Mirarchi had three shots to pace IU, who had 12 as a team.

The Mighty Macs will attempt to get their first CSAC win on Saturday when they host Centenary at 1 p.m.
