Bonvetti's Hat Trick Carries Women's Soccer To 4-1 Win

Box Score

IMMACULATA, Pa.- Needing a win to keep their Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) playoff hopes alive, the Mighty Macs (3-11-1, 3-6-1 CSAC) got a Senior Day hat trick from senior Sam Bonvetti as they defeated Cedar Crest (4-12-2, 2-7-1 CSAC) on Saturday afternoon, 4-1.

This afternoon's game was the final one at Draper Walsh Stadium in the careers of Bonvetti, Zabrina Gallagher, Lucy Hud, Meghan McCurnin, and Rebecca Oulton.

After Cedar Crest controlled the pace early, the Mighty Macs countered and put the first goal on the board.  Hud, in her final home game as a Mighty Mac, scored the first goal of her career on a great pass from the left wing to the far post by sophomore Rachel Lamb to put IU up 1-0 in the 20th minute.

With a minute left in the half, Bonvetti, cashed in on her final game at Draper Walsh Stadium with her second goal of the season.  Junior Kimesha Speller ripped a shot from left of the goal that the keeper stopped, but the rebound came straight to Bonvetti who put it in the back of the net to put IU up 2-0.

In the second half, Cedar Crest cut the deficit in half 12 minutes in with a header off a free kick that got past McCurnin that made it 2-1.

However, Bonvetti provided more Senior Day heroics with her second goal of the game six minutes later as she scored on a perfect pass from sophomore Carly Mirarchi that extended the lead back to two goals at 3-1 midway through the second half.

Bonvetti finished off the Senior Day hat trick with another rebound goal, this time on a shot from Mirarchi, in the 74th minute.  Bonvetti's three-goal game is the most by an Immaculata player since Erin Lewis scored four in a game against Keystone on October 8, 2011.

McCurnin finished off the 16th win of her career with three saves in goal.

The Mighty Macs enter the final two games of their season needing a pair of wins and two losses by Rosemont.  IU will play the Ravens on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Rosemont.
