Field Hockey Edged In Overtime By Cabrini, 2-1

Box Score

IMMACULATA, Pa.- On Saturday afternoon, the Mighty Macs hosted Cabrini looking to stay in playoff contention, and after tying the game late on a Tiffany Lockfeld goal, the Cavaliers (11-3, 6-0 CSAC) defeated the Mighty Macs (6-12, 2-4 CSAC) in overtime, 2-1.

The Mighty Macs played very well in the first half as they battled the top team in the CSAC. Lockfeld had a good chance early as she took a pass from senior Ashley O'Donnell, but she was unable to beat the keeper which kept the game scoreless.

The IU defense was just as strong holding the Cavaliers to just two shots on goal.

In the second half, the pace picked up as both teams had several opportunities off of penalty corners. Cabrini cashed in on an opportunity and netted the first goal of the game as Jen Webb deflected in a pass that narrowly beat sophomore goalie Sarah Pasternak. IU had a chance just moments later with a great centering pass from senior Lindsay Cras, but freshman Nicole Dominick was unable to deflect the ball into the net for the equalizer.

In the 65th minute, the Mighty Macs cashed in on a penalty corner to tie the game. O'Donnell deflected a pass to Lockfeld on the doorstep, and Lockfeld put it in the back of the net. It was her fourth goal of the season and it sent the game to overtime tied 1-1.

In overtime, the Mighty Macs had a chance right away, but the Cabrini defense cleared the ball. Moments later, CSAC scoring leader Kerry Anne Farrell ended it with her 24th goal of the season as she was falling to the ground to give the Cavaliers the 2-1 victory.

Pasternak made eight saves, and senior Lynda Sheets and freshman Cayla Williams each had a defensive save.

With the loss and a Marywood victory, the Mighty Macs will need some help to reach the playoffs. They need to beat Notre Dame on Tuesday and have Keystone beat Marywood to bring tiebreaking scenarios into play.

On Tuesday, IU will have Senior Day in their final game of the season when they host Notre Dame at 4 p.m.

NOTES: This season, the Mighty Macs set a new record for goals in a season as a team with 39 thus far ... O'Donnell's assist gave her 95 points for her career and 16 assists, second most on the team.
