Box Score IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata women's soccer team hosted Neumann on Saturday afternoon for their Breast Cancer Awareness Game on a damp and cold day, and the Knights (4-6, 4-2 CSAC) netted a goal in both the first and second half to secure the 2-0 victory over the Mighty Macs (1-10-1, 1-4-1 CSAC).
Â
The scoring got started very early as Neumann had a corner a little more than a minute into the game, and Alexa DeRose hit a shot that deflected in from the corner for the 1-0 Knight lead as the Mighty Macs were in an early hole.
Â
Senior goalie
Meghan McCurnin made four first half saves, including a diving stop toward the end of the half, to keep the deficit at one goal heading to the locker room.
Â
In the second half, the Mighty Macs came right out of the gates with their best opportunity of the day. Sophomore
Carly Mirarchi got behind the defense on the left wing and charged hard at the net, but her left-footed attempt missed the cage just wide.
Â
The Mighty Macs would try to push up to net the equalizer, but a Neumann goal in the 65
th minute extended the advantage to 2-0 for the Knights and IU was unable to recover.
Â
Junior goalie
Elizabeth McBride made five saves in the second half.
Â
Freshman
Rachel Fanrak and sophomore
Paulina Rucci each registered shots on goal for the Mighty Macs.
Â
