Late Charge Falls Short In 3-1 Defeat

IMMACULATA, Pa.- Immaculata field hockey fell into an early 3-0 hole, and despite a late charge, the Mighty Macs were unable to come all the way back and fell to Arcadia (5-1) by a score of 3-1.  Junior Natalie Rivera scored for Immaculata (2-4) to tie her for the tops on the team with two goals this season.
 
The Knights grabbed the early 1-0 lead in the 13th minute after scoring off a penalty corner.  Freshman goalie Sarah Pasternak made the original save, but Debbie Wolfe was there for the rebound and found the back of the net for the early Arcadia advantage.
 
Arcadia extended their lead to 2-0 when they cashed in on another penalty corner in the 23rd minute.  Pasternak (three saves) again made the initial save, but Wolfe came up with the ball after a scrum in front and scored the second Knight goal of the first half.
 
The Mighty Macs had a couple chances off penalty corners in the first half, but a cross by sophomore Lindsay Cras went untouched as Immaculata trailed 2-0 at the half.
 
Early in the second half, Arcadia added a third goal off the stick of Molly Goldstein whose shot beat freshman goalie Christine McIntyre in the 39th minute to make it 3-0.
 
Immaculata made a push late as Rivera scored on a cross from junior Ashley O'Donnell with just over six minutes remaining to make it 3-1.  Rivera's shot was initially blocked, but it bounced over top of the defender's stick for the first Mighty Mac goal of the day.
 
Immaculata continued to apply pressure, but they ran out of time in the 3-1 defeat.
 
The Mighty Macs will now have six days off until they host Scranton next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
