ABINGTON, Pa. – Immaculata University volleyball rallied from a 2-0 deficit in its season opener to defeat host Penn State Abington, 3-2. The Mighty Macs came back to win the match 20-25, 12-25, 26-24, 25-18 and 15-5. Immaculata was not as fortunate in the second match of the afternoon as it fell in five sets to McDaniel, 3-2 (23-25, 25-15, 18-25, 25-13, 15-10).

In the opener, Immaculata's
Andrea Okoro paced the team with eight kills, while
Alexandra Okoro added seven kills in the victory.
Brittany Thompson handed out 10 assists, and
Jamie Rombach recorded eight assists.
Stephanie Johler led the team in the middle with one solo block and two block assists.

Molly Truitt led the defense making 18 digs,
Brittany Holland had 12 digs and Thompson finished with a double-double after adding 11 digs. Holland led the Mighty Macs on the serve with five aces and Truitt served up four aces.

After winning the first set (25-20) against the Mighty Macs in what was a close set until the final points, the Nittany Lions took control of the second set midway through and continued on to a 25-12 win.

The Mighty Macs were able to extend the match by winning the third set in a comeback. Trailing 18-11, Immaculata was able to capitalize on seven Penn State Abington errors and two Truitt service aces to take a 20-19 edge. The match was then tied at 24-24 as the Mighty Macs closed the set with a point off a Nittany Lions' attack error and
Allison Lang scored the winning kill from Thompson's set.

The fourth set opened with the teams going back and forth for a 7-7 score. As Truitt went back to serve, Immaculata recorded seven-straight points, including two more aces for the Immaculata freshman, to jump ahead 14-7. The match was controlled by the Mighty Macs from that moment as the Nittany Lions got no closer than five points, and the momentum shifted in the direction of Immaculata.

Immaculata never trailed in the deciding set with the Mighty Macs rolling to a 15-5 victory to close out the match.

In the second match of the day, Immaculata won the first and third sets 25-23 and 25-18, respectively, but it was McDaniel that was able to clinch the win.

Alexandra Okoro and
Andrea Okoro each tallied eight kills. Lang was strong at the net with five total blocks to go along with four kills. Thompson dished out 15 assists and Rombach had 10 assists. Truitt recorded 17 digs.

Immaculata travels to Misericordia on Sept. 4 for a 7 p.m. match.
