BALTIMORE, Md.- The Immaculata field hockey team started Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play with their best offensive showing since 2011 as they defeated Notre Dame (0-7, 0-3 CSAC) by a score of 8-0 on Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore
Patsy Murphy led the Mighty Macs (3-8, 1-0 CSAC) as she tallied a hat trick to bring her team-leading goal count to six on the season. Senior
Molly Byrne and junior Ashley O'Donnell each tallied two goals and one assist, and junior
Natalie Rivera finished off the scoring with one goal.
Freshman
Sarah Pasternak got the victory in goal with two saves in a combined shutout with fellow freshmen
Emily Beavers and
Christine McIntyre.
Rivera got the scoring started on the first of two assists on the day from sophomore
Lindsay Cras in the 11
th minute to stake the Mighty Macs to the early 1-0 advantage. Murphy pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 16
th minute on an unassisted tally, but the Mighty Mac offense was unable to score again in the first half despite 15 penalty corners in the opening 35 minutes.
Immaculata put the Gators away in the second half with a 12-minute stretch where they scored six goals.
Murphy scored back-to-back goals, one on an assist from O'Donnell in the 49
th and 52
nd minute to build the lead to 4-0.
Byrne would then net her first of the season in the 55
th minute to make it 5-0.
O'Donnell knocked in her third and fourth of the season in less than a minute, before Byrne finished off the scoring for the Mighty Macs on Cras' second assist of the afternoon.
Immaculata eyes a 2-0 start in CSAC play this Saturday with a road game at Cedar Crest at 1 p.m.
