Immaculata Drops 3-0 Decision To DeSales

Box Score

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata field hockey team surrendered two first half goals, and despite a late rally, were unable to overcome the deficit in a 3-0 defeat to DeSales (4-7).  The Mighty Macs (2-8) had strong goalkeeping from freshmen Christine McIntyre and Sarah Pasternak as they combined for 12 saves against a steady Bulldog attack.

DeSales got on the board early when Jesse Marshall took a centering pass from Alison Malatesta and she beat McIntyre for the first goal of the game a little more than five minutes into the game.

The Mighty Macs attempted to respond, but a shot from junior Ashley O'Donnell sailed wide as the Bulldogs maintained their lead.

The Bulldogs would add their second goal of the game in the 18th minute when Meryah Harding took a deflected clearing attempt and slid it past McIntyre (five saves) for a 2-0 haltime lead for DeSales.

The Immaculata defense played well in the second half, including senior Molly Byrne's third defensive save of the season to preserve the two-goal deficit.

The Mighty Macs mounted a late rally as they piled up chances, but were unable to breakthrough for a goal.  Freshman Brittany Baker, O'Donnell, and sophomore Lindsay Cras all had shots that just missed netting the first goal of the day for IU.

The Bulldogs put the game away in the 57th on a goal off a corner by Harding as they took the non-conference game 3-0.

Immaculata will jump into their CSAC schedule next Wednesday when they travel to Notre Dame for a 4 p.m. start as they attempt to start their playoff run.
